Its been a while since I posted on my treatments. I am still alive, haha! Just been too caught up with the day to day life that I neglected my blog…😭
I first went to see Dr Lee Kim Shang, Senior Consultant, Radiation Oncologist at Mount Elizabeth Orchard on 10 April 2018. I was excited as this meant a step closer to saying goodbye to cancer.
When I first met Dr Lee, he told me about how many sessions of radiotherapy I needed and after radiotherapy, whenever I go for X-ray, CT scan etc, they will notice slight scarring at my lungs ( this is normal). He explained to me that due to the stage I am in, I am required to undergo 18 sessions of radiotherapy. (The number of sessions depends on the severity of your cancer as well as the type of treatments you have undergone. Realised that some of my friends, went for 12-16 sessions after chemotherapy, those who only went for radiotherapy without chemotherapy had as many as 30 sessions.)
Before the start of the radiotherapy sessions, Dr Lee will take a CT scan, mark the areas on your body with markers to prevent harming your major organs like your heart and lungs. As radiotherapy has to be done everyday without stopping, example: Mon to Fri, ( the clinic is closed on weekends) for continuously few weeks till the end of your prescribed sessions. Dr Lee is so kind and fatherly, he explained everything in detailed and he is always so concerned about how I am coping and advised me not to overwork as I went back to office at the start of radiotherapy.
18 sessions went by very smoothly. To me, radiotherapy is really a breeze compared to chemotherapy.
Side note: In order to go for radiotherapy after chemo, you need to wait for 3 weeks after chemo for your white blood cells to be up so that you have the ability to heal and not get burnt.
I am 1 more step closer in saying ‘HI‘ to remission😊.
